The risk John McCain took last Friday is comparable to the 72-year-old ex-fighter pilot knocking back two shots and flying his A-4 under the Golden Gate Bridge.

McCain's choice of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin to be his co-pilot was the biggest gamble in presidential history. As of now, it is paying off, big-time.

Last year, Planned Parenthood performed more than 250,000 abortions, which account for about 1 in 5 of our country's total. Of all abortions, those performed for black women accounted for about a third of the procedures. It's also worth noting that a majority of Planned Parenthood's clinics are in minority neighborhoods.

Planned Parenthood move protested

WEST PRICE HILL - Abortion opponents from around Cincinnati stood in front of 150 people at Elder High School's Schaeper Center on Saturday and condemned the practices of Planned Parenthood, a pro-choice nonprofit group.

The event was organized to stop the move of a Planned Parenthood clinic from 6548 Glenway Ave. in Green Township to 2016 Ferguson Road in West Price Hill.

Southwest Ohio Planned Parenthood CEO Becki Brenner has argued that the new location will offer the same services it has in the past - pap smears, breast exams and treatment for sexually transmitted diseases. Abortions will not be performed at the location, she said.

The rally's organizers believe the move near the Western Hills High School campus is strategic, said Jennifer Giroux, executive director of a Cincinnati group called Women Influencing the Nation. She said the clinic will force its pro-choice message on young girls.

Brenner said that's not true.

"(The building) was a clinic before, so the remodel is minimal," Brenner said earlier. "Plus we wanted to stay on a certain bus route."

Event organizers invited Jim Sedlak, who created a group called Stop Planned Parenthood, to talk about his experience with the nonprofit group.

"It's a sex business," Sedlak said. "They believe kids should have sex. That's what the message will be at the clinic next to a high school."

He also said it's his belief that Planned Parenthood targets minorities.

Steve Brown was one of the few African-Americans in the crowd. Brown, who has five children and lives in College Hill, said minorities should become active in keeping Planned Parenthood from moving.

"The pro-life community needs to reach out to minority communities, too," Brown said.

He plans to speak to the congregation at his church, Heirs Covenant near West Chester, about joining the effort to fight Planned Parenthood.

"I feel that (Planned Parenthood) is not forthcoming with a lot of information," Brown said, "and kids are so impressionable at that age ...."
