Last year, Planned Parenthood performed more than 250,000 abortions, which account for about 1 in 5 of our country's total. Remarks attributable to Kansans for Life executive Director Mary Kay Culp, 913-406-4446

Kansas Archbishop rebukes Catholic Governor
for pro-life bill veto and unworthy reception of Communion

The northeast Kansas Catholic newspaper reveals Archbishop's rebuke to Catholic Gov. Kathleen Sebelius for vetoing yet another pro-life bill, and exacerbating it by having received Communion against pastoral warning.  http://www.theleave n.com/columnists /archbishop_ naumann.htm  This is not the first public rebuke of Sebelius by the northeast Kansas Catholic Bishops.

KFL Executive Director Mary Kay Culp commented, "Earlier this week the Kansas Supreme Court reignited the Wichita grand jury against Tiller, and refused to exonerate Planned Parenthood using secret proceedings.  Now Archbishop Naumann, representing arguably an even more 'supreme' court, has rebuked Governor Sebelius for promoting abortion, and warns that stronger sanctions await her.  Whether these events signal a turnaround in Kansas abortion politics remains to be seen, but we can't help but be encouraged and thankful."

During her tenure as Governor of Kansas, Sebelius has vetoed:
> abortion clinic regulation in 2003 and 2005

> a grant matching program for Crisis Pregnancy centers in 2003
> a one-question-change to the state late-term abortion abortion reporting form in 2006
> the Comprehensive Abortion Reform Act in 2008

In 1989, as a state representative and judicairy committee member, Sebelius opined, “there are certain inalienable rights established for a person, but those are not applied in utero.”  http://www.kansasmeadowlark.com/Issues/ProAbort/Sebelius/MomChildMurdered.htm

Following the Summer of Mercy protests in Wichita, an angry Sebelius steam-rolled new abortionist-friendly provisions into law. Archbishop Ignatius Strecker later described her efforts as "attempting to make the 'Death Marches' to the abortion clinics as legal as the death-marches to the gas chambers of the World War II Holocaust"
http://www.kansasmeadowlark.com/Issues/ProAbort/Sebelius/ArchbishopStrecker.htm

Archbishop James Keleher complained that Sebelius commandeered a Catholic church to host her inauguration in 2002, without his permission. Keleher said she voted in favor of liberalizing abortion laws in Kansas and is "at odds with our Catholic faith on that most fundamental moral issue of respect for the right to life of the unborn," http://www2.ljworld.com/news/2003/jan/03/abortion_stirs_inaugural/

Archbishop Joseph Naumann has publicly disapproved of Sebelius' pro-abortion actions as governor, incluiding a September 2006 criticism of  Sebelius' veto of  a significant change in reporting viable baby abortions. She responded, " I have frequent dialogue with the Catholic bishops and ...I get a little frustrated in this sort of singular focus on that issue...I keep reminding my fellow brethren that ...judgment day  has everything to do with feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, visiting the sick, visiting those in prison." http://www.hutchnews.com/news/local/stories/Sebeliusstop091506.shtml

The Archbishop's letter this week revealed that Sebelius had been counseled often and warned in August 2007 not to receive Communion unworthily. While she has not yet been excommunicated, this is a significant chastisement by Naumann, who is the lead bishop of all four diocesan bishops in Kansas.  Also see the Associated Press story:

A self-described Catholic group, created d
uring the 2006 election cycle to woo Catholics from supporting the pro-life gubernatorial candidate, featured Sebelius at a Kansas City one-day conference. At the event, Sebelius declared her interpretations of authentic Catholicism, which opposed the published and carefully explained pro-life positions of the Kansas Catholic Conference. http://curmudgeonkc.blogspot.com/2006/09/conference-part-3the-sebelius-speech.html

Sebelius is actively campaigning for pro-abortion presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama.  Obama called his vote allowing Teri Schiavo's parents access to the federal courts  "a mistake."  The other Democrat presidential contender, Hilary Rodham Clinton, is also radically pro-abortion .  See National Right to Life Committee Senate voting records at http://www.capwiz.com/nrlc/scorecard.xc?chamber=S&state=US&session=110&x=12&y=11

Bill Donohue of the Catholic League has been publicly denouncing Obama for creating a Catholic advisory council composed of pro-abortion politicians, like Sebelius. Donohue says:“The Catholic Church regards abortion, as well as embryonic stecell research, as ‘intrinsically evil.’ But ...‘progressive’ Catholics do not treat abortion the way they do racial discrimination. No one in his right mind says that the best way to combat racial discrimination is by changing people’s hearts and minds, not the law.
